TGPS Workshop is five days long - Orders are required. In San Diego 5 classes run concurrently: 2 at Naval Base San Diego, 1 at Naval Base Coronado, and 2 at Naval Base Point Loma. The specific location will be determined by your Command Career Counselor or the FFSC TGPS Coordinator.
You will receive an overview of Transition GPS, discuss the transition-related stress and conflicts that you and your family might face, as well as ways to manage them. You will complete the Gap Analysis Activity using your Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) and other military transcripts, identify civilian career opportunities you are interested in pursuing, and research potential job markets.
Department of Labor facilitators will help you prepare for the civilian job market. With their assistance, you will practice interviewing and learn new ways to connect and build a network. You will also have a full day to spend incorporating your military skills, experiences and trainings into language appropriate for a civilian resume. Additionally, you will receive information about the American Job Centers and advice about navigating the federal hiring system as veterans.
Facilitators from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will work with you to ensure your understanding of the benefits you may be eligible to receive as a veteran, including health care, disability compensation and tuition assistance. During the VA briefings, you will also learn how to navigate the eBenefits online portal and the site’s Employment Center.
