Bartender
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare and serve all types of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages from a full service bar. Mixes a wide variety of drinks to order, following a variety of established recipes. Receives payment or charges to member’s accounts. Makes change and is accountable for cash fund. Assists in taking inventory and maintaining records. Keeps bar area clean and keeps area stocked properly at all times. Washes bar equipment, glassware, and utensils. May perform other sanitation duties within assigned work area as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is located on San Clemente Island and requires weekly air transportation to and from the Island. Transportation is provided, at no cost, on a twin engine, 21 passengers Fairchild Metro or a twin engine, 29 passengers Dash-8 200. All flights are scheduled through N9 department schedulers two weeks in advance.
The incumbents position works 7-on/7-off as part of a blue/gold operational team. Departure to SCI occurs on a Wednesday and returns to NASNI on a Tuesday. Incumbents are compensated for one hour pre-flight check-in plus 30 minutes for the flight to SCI. The same compensation is provided for the return flight.
The incumbent has access to a parking lot at the NASNI Air Terminal for use will serving on San Clemente.
The incumbent must possess and maintain a current driver's license, as travel to other facilities located on the island is required within the normal scope of duties. A vehicle will be available for use while serving on San Clemente.
The incumbent is expected to meet the qualifications of a Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively (CARE) Certification, or a US Navy approved alternative.
The incumbent will receive an individual room with a 'common head' and 'common bath' shared with the off-duty bartender.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Ability to mix and serve a wide variety of beverages by combining ingredients such as liquors, soda, water, sugar, bitters, and fruit garnishes

Serves liqueur, beer, and wine, and is skillful in mixing such beverages as an Alexander, Margarita, Zombi, etc.

Skill to completely set-up a bar and to recognize impeding shortages of supplies based on the volume of business and insure their timely replacement

Ability to collect tabs, chits or cash in appropriate amounts and is accountable for cash and inventory for the period worked

Ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed

Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English

Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation.Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
