Auto Skills Center


The Auto Skills Center at Naval Base San Diego is the largest facility of its kind in the world, offering more than 144 bays, 24 lifts, an on-site auto parts store, a fully stocked tool room, a tire center, brake lathes, bead blaster, pressure washer, bearing presses, and more.

This do-it-yourself automotive repair facility allows customers of all experience levels—from beginners to seasoned mechanics—to perform maintenance and repairs on their personal vehicles. Whether you're completing routine service, tackling major repairs, or restoring a classic, we provide the space, tools, and support you need.

Training & Support

MWR’s Automotive Skills Program offers monthly minor-maintenance classes, a modern working environment with individual bays, state-of-the-art mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, and access to ALLDATA, the industry’s leading source for OEM repair information. Our trained staff is available to guide you and help you work safely and confidently.

We supply the tools and know-how — you provide the labor.


Important Information


Bay Availability
Repair bays are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted at this time. Due to high demand, bays are often at full capacity each day.

Safety Requirements
All first-time customers must complete a safety briefing before using the facility. Upon completion, customers will receive a Safety Card authorizing them to use the shop.

What to Bring
Please arrive dressed appropriately for shop work. Closed-toe shoes are required at all times. Additional dress code and safety requirements are outlined in the facility's general rules.

Equipment & Services
The Auto Skills Center offers a variety of repair bays, vehicle lifts, tools, and specialty equipment. Available equipment and pricing are listed on the current equipment and price sheet.

Restrictions- The following services are not permitted:

  • Painting
  • A/C system evacuation, bleeding, or servicing


Payment: This is a cashless facility. Accepted forms of payment include:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • NEXT STAR Card


Check-In Procedure
Upon arrival, check in at the front gate and complete a Hold Harmless Agreement before using the facility.

Before You Arrive
For your safety, wear appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Please review the facility's general safety rules before your visit.

  • Pressure wash stall
  • Strut and Spring compression machine
  • 3 Brake Lathe machines for turning drums & rotors
  • Overnight or daily stalls available
  • U-Perform routine maintenance, tune-ups and brake work
  • Machine room with Bearing press, grinders & Drill Press
  • Automotive diagnostic and code scanners available
  • Complete re-manufactured engines and other auto parts available at or below jobber prices
