BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) San Diego is looking for the best, brightest, and most adventurous to join our team as a Deployed Resiliency Educator (DRE).  The primary purpose of the position is to deploy at sea on board US Navy ships to serve as a non-clinical trainer and deliver a wide variety of educational programs and services.  The success of this position is based on the incumbent’s ability to successfully embed within the command and operate in a shipboard environment.  The DRE facilitates prevention classes that focus on building resiliency, enhancing adaptation to the unique challenges of military life, and reducing unplanned losses.  The DRE provides education services, programs, and workshops on topics related to various FFSC programs including: Counseling, Advocacy, and Prevention (CAP), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR), Work and Family Life (WFL), and Navy Gold Star.  The DRE supports and assists with Return & Reunion workshops, where active duty service members are prepared to return from deployment, reunite with family and friends, and reintegrate into their post-deployment life.  The DRE coordinates with the Deployed Resiliency Counselor (DRC) in planning scheduled workshops, programs, command briefs, and general military trainings (GMTs) presented on the ship and at other locations.  The DRE supports the overall development and maintenance of assigned courses and initiates any needed updates or changes in course content.  The DRE consults with command leaders at all levels and evaluates feedback and survey data in order to develop individualized training plans that meet specific unit needs.  The DRE identifies and clarifies issues and concerns and provides appropriate referrals within FFSC and/or other military or civilian organizations.  The DRE develops the creative, unique, and diverse marketing strategy for all FFSC training programs within the assigned command.  The DRE submits all data in to the FFSC electronic information management system in a timely and accurate manner.  The DRE provides support to the homeport FFSC general and crisis response programs, to include emergency preparedness and mass care, when not deployed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

  

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral/social science, adult education, or related field; or a combination of college education and experience in behavioral/social sciences; or four years appropriate experience equivalent to behavioral/social science education.

  • Knowledge of military language, customs, and culture to include navigating shipboard dynamics.

  • Knowledge of the psychological and/or socioeconomic stresses caused by prolonged separations, which affect individuals, families, mission performance, and command readiness.

  • Knowledge of FFSC mission, functions, policies, procedures, program goals, and objectives.

  • Experience providing classes, presentations, trainings, workshops, and briefs focused on personal growth.

  • Ability to provide oral presentations, to large, medium, and small groups of people in a clear and concise manner.

  • Knowledge of programs and services related to domestic violence and sexual assault prevention and support.

  • Skill in program development, curriculum delivery, course review, and update.

  • Ability to interpret program evaluations, needs assessment feedback, and survey data and to implement results in program delivery and marketing.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of leadership, staff, and with military personnel and their families.

  • Skill in building relationships and working collaborating with military and civilian organizations.

  • Ability to adapt to changing work conditions, frequent interruptions, and pressures of short deadlines.

  • Skill in the use of program presentation technology including PowerPoint software, automated projectors and audiovisual equipment, laser pointers, etc.

  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).

     

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    If selected for this position, you will be required to:

  • Deploy at sea on board US Navy ships.Deployment lengths will vary from a few days to over 10 months at a time.The incumbent will be on call 24 hours a day while deployed for crisis intervention situations.

  • Complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation and contain no convictions of sexual assault and domestic violence. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.

  • Must complete a medical exam and be found fit for shipboard duty.

  • During deployment, there will be limitations on privacy and activities due to the shipboard environment.
